SCHOOL TRANSFORMED INTO SWANKY APARTMENTS

Well-heeled house-hunters in Blackrock won’t have to travel far for the proverbial school around the corner: Prospect House, a period building in the Dublin coastal village that was last used to house a private girls’ school called Rosemont Park, has been transformed into six large apartments.

The protected six-bay, three-storey structure was built in the mid-18th century, with a a second stage of construction in the 19th century, after which it was used as a college until its most recent incarnation as a private school.

Carrickreagh Developments bought the property off the tree-lined cul-de-sac of Barclay Court and oversaw its refurbishment, which included restoring the original roof, sliding sash windows, and chimneys. It now houses six two-bed apartments ranging in size from 872 sq ft to 1,087 sq ft, with prices going from €595,000 to €675,000.

The garden-level apartments have own-door access from the landscaped gardens and prospective residents of the remaining units will use the original entrance hallway, with its high ceilings and panelled walls. Inside, the handmade kitchens are bespoke, and there are herringbone oak-finished floors to the living areas and carpets and built-in wardrobes to the bedrooms.

On the grounds of Prospect House, Carrickreagh is also developing nine newly-built houses. The size ranges from 1,485 sq ft to 1,841 sq ft, with prices starting at €850,000 for a two-bed detached home and going up to €1.1m for a four-bed detached house.

Viewings are 11am to 1pm, tomorrow and Sunday.
